Northern Highreaches - Region
- Parent: The Far Lands
Description: The lands called the Northern Highreaches stretch from the vast tallgrass prairies north of the Amber Sea, to the forests that border the Great Northern Ocean. These wild lands are home to the hardy Norsic tribes, called the ‘northmen’ by civilized folk. The northmen are a pale skinned, golden haired, people who claim to have come from across the eastern ocean many generations ago. Some of these clans settled in the Northlands around the Amber Sea and mixed with the Sarssian settlers forming the peoples who now make up the Three Kingdoms and Mitnar. But the northmen of the Highreaches are a nomadic and free-spirited people who shun the trappings of ‘civilization.’ They subsist off hunting the large game that roams the prairies in endless herds and they trade for tools and weapons with the dwarves of Redenthul and the warrior peoples of Mitnar. The ancient forests to the northwest are considered sacred realms to the elves and taboo to the northmen. They are rumored to be the home of the Unicorn Vale, nestled deep within the mountains. There Marsara’s chosen race is said to dwell in numbers unheard of in other lands. Stories also tell of the giant Treant Folk who keep watch over these woods. They work to expand the forest borders year by year--encroaching into the prairies with new woods, which would not exist without their efforts. The forests of the Highreaches are unwelcoming places to most of the settled races. But those allied with Marsara's children and friends of the wild like the Druids and Rangers can find refuge and shelter in these verdant lands.
