Cyran Empire - Region
- Parent: The Far Lands
Description: The banner of the The Cyran Empire flies over nearly a quarter of the continent of Erdessa. Its citizens and many slaves number in the tens of millions…far more than all of the neighboring lands combined. The Cyran Empire’s citizens are predominately humans of Cyran and Lassini descent but the residents of the Nynpa Isles have recently fallen under imperial authority as well. Slaves in the empire come from all over the known world and include human barbarians, dwarves, gnomes, giants, half-ogres, and countless other conquered species. The armies of Cyra are the size of many smaller kingdoms with their famous Border Legions alone numbering 600,000 regulars. But by far the most feared symbols of Cyran power and authority are the three floating citadels that drift across the Empire. The most majestic of these, Alea Cyrda, contains the palace of the emperor and the garrisons of the elite First and Second Aerial Legions. The powerful magics that keep the citadel afloat are provided by the Scolus Arcanus, wizards who have pledged their lives and arts to the emperor and his cause. Few sights are more terrifying that the rain of fireballs that wizards of The Scolus can hurl down from the floating city at the emperor’s command. The heart of Cyran civilization, though, can be found in the fertile Nisbus Valley which runs down the center of the Cyrean peninsula. Large farming families and their many slaves cultivate wheat, figs, grapes and olives to feed the burgeoning empire’s many cities. The Scolus Arcanus provides Cyra’s noble families with servants summoned by magic from the elemental planes. These bound elementals labor in vast quarries and build the mighty roads and monuments of the empire. All the neighboring lands have a healthy fear of Cyra, for who knows where the emperor will turn his sights now that Thordex has fallen under Cyran control.
