Erdessa - Continent

The cradle of known civilization on RootHome lies on the continent of Erdessa, whose name means “The living sea” in elven. It is a massive island over 2200 miles long and nearly an equal distance from north to south. and  Because of its shape and location near the equator, most of the continent is warm and dry. Erdessa is split in two by the Spine Mountains that run from the northeast to the southwestern corner of the continent. The region north of the Spine is a transitional zone of great pine forests and abundant rainfall giving way to great temperate forests the farther north one travels. The region occupying the northwest quarter of Erdessa is called the Land of Winter. For only in that region does snow fall each year, blanketing an otherwise warm and dry continent.
